SDI offers three online programs that provide students with a hands-on education in the firearms and unmanned technology industries. 

The Associate of Science in Firearms Technology degree program offers SDI students the opportunity to gain a complete understanding of firearms technology and how to navigate the unique and exciting firearms industry without having to travel or relocate. This 60-semester-hour program is the most comprehensive of SDI’s programs, and is one of only a handful of firearms-specific degree programs in the nation.

For students looking to hone their gunsmithing skills, learn the techniques needed to operate a gunsmithing business, gain a valuable credential or expand their hobby into a career, SDI’s Certificate in Firearms Technology – Gunsmithing program is a great fit. In this 32-credit program, you’ll learn gunsmithing techniques and practices, shooting sports management, and more—you’ll also complete a build of your choice.

The Certificate in Unmanned Technology – Aerial Systems program provides students with a solid foundation of historical, technical, and operational knowledge about unmanned aircraft systems. Students learn how unmanned aircraft systems are used by commercial businesses to make their operations more efficient, cost effective, and safer.

SDI is a distance learning institute, which means students enjoy the benefits of flexible online learning and access to experienced staff without having to travel or relocate. SDI provides the materials, instruction, and support to help you succeed.

How It Works

SDI makes getting an education you’re passionate about easy and affordable. The Associate of Science in Firearms Technology and the Certificate in Firearms Technology – Gunsmithing programs are approved for use of most VA and TA military benefits as well as Federal Student Aid, based on eligibility, and we work with each student to make sure that his or her enrollment process and funding plans go as smoothly as possible. We offer affordable, no-interest monthly payments so that all students achieve the education they desire with the funding plan that works for them. The Certificate in Unmanned Technology – Aerial Systems program is not currently approved for use of TA, VA, or Federal Student Aid funding options.
