Highest degree and school: BA, History, Ohio State University

Doug Datish teaches Introduction to Firearms and Firearms Finishes and Engraving for the School of Firearms Technology. An alum of the Ohio State University, Doug runs a production company which produces content and marketing materials for various hunting and military companies. He has developed hunting and survival television shows for Sportsman Channel and Pursuit Network, where he’s spent nearly 3 months out of the year living and filming in the field, traveled all over the country, and worked with many professionals in the hunting, shooting, outdoor, and survivalist worlds.

Coming from a family of educators, Doug says it felt natural to start teaching for SDI. “I enjoy instructing the next generation of firearms professionals and responsible firearms owners,” he said. “I have learned a ton from our diverse student population and I especially enjoy when a student has the information cemented in their mind.” He added that his favorite part of teaching is his interactions with his students.

A former football player for Ohio State, Doug’s interests outside of work include sports, especially watching Ohio State football. He also enjoys hunting, fishing, and camping. His idea of a perfect day would be waking up for a pre-dawn workout, having a great cup of coffee, and then trekking out with his family for an all-day outdoors excursion. He is most interested in learning about human optimization, both from a physical and a mental perspective.
