Title: Faculty, School of Firearms Technology

Highest degree and school: B.A. in Education, Metropolitan State University

Teaching at SDI since: 2020

Chad Haymon teaches the Gunsmithing Tools Lab for the School of Firearms Technology at SDI. He has spent more than 22 years teaching for public schools, business conferences, churches, colleges, and symposiums across the U.S. and in several other countries. Additionally, he has served on the board of directors for the Second Amendment news organization 2AO.org since 2016 and holds several NRA instructor certifications. He has held an FFL and owned his own firearms retail shop and training center since 2009, and currently also serves as a sheriff’s deputy in Arizona.

While looking for additional teaching opportunities, Chad says he found SDI’s core values relatable and challenging: “I appreciated the continuous effort to make improvements and offer the best learning experience possible for students. Ethics and integrity speak to the way I govern my personal life and appreciate an educational system that pursues this as well.” He finds teaching to be a rewarding profession, particularly when he is able to share knowledge and experience with a student and “see the light come on.”

In his personal life, Chad enjoys spending time with his wife and two teens exploring the great outdoors, recreational shooting, hunting, camping, and “sometimes just sitting in front of the TV in our pajamas.” He says his perfect day would be spent being on a beach. A committed lifelong learner, Chad feels he would most enjoy learning to fly a plane: “I have jumped out of planes and provided landing zone coordinates for helo’s. I think it would be fun to be on the other end.”
