Here at SDI these solar courses, like all of our education offerings have been developed, edited and illustrated by industry subject specialists. For our Solar programs, this includes tapping the insight and expertise of a pioneer of renewable energy programs who is the head instructor at one of the oldest solar programs in the country, Cabrillo College in California.
Here's what some Industry Experts are saying about Solar career fields and our program:
"Industry wide, the problem facing solar integrators is not procuring new jobs, but finding qualified individuals to carry out the skilled tasks associated with completing a project. An overwhelming majority of the candidates interviewed by employers in the solar/photovoltaic industry lack the solar experience necessary to hit the ground running as system designers, sales people, or installation team members. Sonoran Desert Institute is offering one of the few programs that helps prepare individuals for employment in the solar industry."
Jaymes Callinan, VP of Operations for Vista Solar
What is the U.S. Government saying about Solar and Clean Energy Career Fields?
"The Obama administration is aggressively pushing solar and renewable energy. People who make $20 per hour before a green jobs training program, can make $50 per hour after. On average, the clean-energy jobs pay 10 to 20 percent more than similar work outside the field."
Vice President Joe Biden
Important Solar Facts
- By the year 2010 solar is projected to create more than 350,000 net new jobs, as many as employed by the nation's largest automaker.
- In the next four years, Solar-Photovoltaic industry revenues are expected to more than quadruple from $15.6 billion to $69.3 billion!
- Solar thermal power plants create two and one-half times as many skilled, high paying jobs for the communities in which they operate as do conventional power plants that use fossil fuels.
- The solar photovoltaic industry is expected to add 70,000 jobs in the United States over the next year, even with the current economic climate, because of the cost savings and tax incentives associated with it.
